If you are new to this whole “internet business” thing and aren’t quite sure exactly what an internet domain name is, don’t fret. You are not alone. According to Google’s keyword tool, there are actually over four-million monthly Google searches for the term “What is a domain?” And that is just in the U.S.
A Domain is the name you choose for your website. That’s all. The domain for the blog you’re reading right now is WorldWideCashCow.com.
How to Get Your Own Domain:
There are many places online to get a domain name. I have around 10 or 12 and most of them come from NameCheap.com. The reasons for my choosing NameCheap and not Godaddy.com or some other domain registrar are: First, the website is just simpler to use, especially for people who are new. The second is that unlike Godaddy, which is a good and probably the most popular service, Namecheap doesn’t try to sell you on five or ten other products and services that you don’t need, especially in the beginning. Third, I’ve never had a problem.
Why You Should Have Your Own Domain:
If you are planning to have your own website for an existing business, you would obviously want to use your business as your domain name. If you are planning to start an online business like a blog, it is important to have your own domain. You can use the free versions of wordpress or blogger like many do and have great success, but not only does a proper domain look more professional than www.yoursite.blogspot.com, it will also be easier for your readers and customers to remember. Another thing is that if you choose to go the free route, you do not own it. If there is ever a problem or if you do something your free provider doesn’t like, that can be it. You will have wasted all that time and effort. You will lose sales and prospects since your readers won’t know where to find you and you will lose any high ranking you’ve managed to gain in the search engines. For only $10 a year, it’s the safer and wiser choice.
